(9)             NSSBA REPORT:

 

Commissioner MacDonald reviewed his report which was distributed to those in attendance.

 

(10)          NEW BUSINESS:

 

6)                Commissioner Campbell - New School site selection Committee - Commissioner Campbell spoke with regards to the announcement of the new schools which were announced in the Spring by the Provincial government.  Superintendent Davis requested permission to form a site selection committee for the selected areas.

7)                Commissioner Stubbert - Vandalism.  Commissioner Stubbert noted that the public should  be aware of the seriousness of the situation and the cost of repairs to our schools with regards to vandalism.

 

8)                Commissioner Bates - Getting rid of the deficit.  Commissioner Bates spoke with regards to the budget and the recent announcement of clawbacks to School Boards.

Commissioner Best requested a media release to inform the public of the recent cut in the Board=s budget.

 

9)                Commissioner Best - Vandalism.  Commissioner Best requested that the Board inform the parents of the seriousness of this issue.  He also requested at this time that the Board receive legal advise on steps which the Board may take to retrieve some of the costs incurred as a result of vandalism.

 

10)           Commissioner Bain - Audit Committee.  Commissioner Bain wished to note that the province had mentioned in their press release that they are moving towards having Boards implement Audit Committees.  It was noted that our Board presently has an Audit Committee and that it has been in place for sometime now.

 

(11)           CORRESPONDENCE:

 

Mr. Peach noted that there was no correspondence.

 

(12)          SUPERINTENDENT=S REPORT:

 

Superintendent Davis presented his report to those in attendance.  The report was distributed to those in attendance along with being placed on the Board website. Some highlights of his report included a thank you to the administrative clerical staff of the Board.  Also noted were the educational relevance of extra-curricular activities which our students participate in.

 

(13)          REGIONAL EDUCATION OFFICERS REPORT:

 

Mr. Jim Burton reviewed his report with those in attendance.  Some highlights of his report was the technology which is being implemented throughout the Board.  Congratulations were expressed to the Human Resources Department, the Board and the NSTU for the recent signing of their collective agreement.  Special mention was given to the recent Professional Development Day.

 

A brief outline of the Transportation review taking place in our board was presented.

(16)          PUBLIC SESSION (15 MINUTES):

 

 

Mr. Don Matheson, Director of Operations spoke with regards to the recent rash of vandalism taking place in our schools.  A display of the new screening system which will be placed on the windows to protect the glass was shown to those in attendance.
