A Special Board meeting of the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board was called to order today beginning at 4:25 p.m.

Director of Human Resources, Mrs. Beth MacIsaac discussed the issue of closing the building at the Grand Mira site.

It was noted that Senior Management will be looking at the Junior High and Senior High enrollment numbers later during the week. The enrollment numbers at these appropriate grade levels usually show signs of stabilizing after the first week of classes.


 

(5)        ACKNOWLEDGMENTS:           


On behalf of the Board the Human Resources Department were commended for their diligent work concerning staffing.


Commissioner Stubbert noted that Mr. MacDougall , Principal of Memorial High wished to express his thanks to Mr. Don Matheson and his staff for their work on the school during the summer months.


Commissioner Turnbull-Campbell thanked Mr. Davis and Mr. Don Matheson for their presence during the first day of school at MacDonald Elementary. It was noted that their presence was greatly appreciated by the staff and parents of this community.


 

(6)        NEW BUSINESS:

 

a)         Commissioner Bain- Bussing in Little Narrows:


Commissioner Bain noted that he has received several phone calls from parents of the Little Narrows area who are being bussed to Baddeck Academy. Mr. Matheson noted that he will review the times which the busses are transporting the students.


Commissioner Bain also questioned selection of classes during semestering at Baddeck Academy.

(French and Science) Mr. MacEachern will review this situation with the Principal of Baddeck Academy.

 

b)         Commissioner Fraser- Glace Bay Elementary:


Commissioner Fraser questioned Mr. Matheson concerning the paving project for the portables at Glace Bay elementary. It was noted that drainage systems will have to be in place before the project is completed. The paving in the play area will be completed before Christmas.


Commissioner Fraser noted the appearance of St. Anne’s school and commended Mr. Matheson and his staff for their work. He also questioned Mr. Matheson on the installation of siding for the school. It was noted that when the capital project comes through for the School it would be his wish to put the siding on at this time.

 

c)         Commissioner Fraser - Riverside French Enhancement Project:


Commissioner Fraser also commended the staff on the French enrichment project which is taking place at Riverside elementary.
