Place a fresh nine volt battery in a glass of water and
add a teaspoon of epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) and stir. |

Watch bubbles of gases given off at the positive and
negative poles. Water is decomposed by electricity into two gases, hydrogen
and oxygen. Gas given off at
the negative pole is the hydrogen and gas given off at
the positive pole is the oxygen. |
