About our School

Malcolm Munroe Memorial Jr. High School was officially opened September, 1974. The school was named in honor of the late School Board member and County Councilor, Malcolm Munroe.

The school presently houses students from all of the outlying areas of Cape Breton County, such as Gabarus, Albert Bridge, Marion Bridge, Mira, Main-A-Dieu, East Bay, Big Pond, and the heavily populated regions of Sydney River and Howie Centre. Our Late French Immersion Program also draws students to our school from outside our usual geographical boundaries.

Malcolm Munroe Memorial Jr. High is a well planned school consisting of twenty-six classrooms, with provision for Arts and Crafts, Music, Tech Ed, and Family Studies. As well, there is a large gymnasium for Physical Education classes. The gym is also used for many outside community events.

There are many extra-curricular activities enjoyed by our students, which have resulted in the school winning provincial titles in debating, public speaking, and music competitions.

Malcolm Munroe Memorial Jr. High provides a well rounded educational program for its students and the school has achieved success in every facet of school and student life.
