Absent from Class
If for some reason a student cannot attend classes, a parent/guardian should call the school and inform the secretary of the reason for his/her child's absence. In the event of a medical/dental appointment, parents are asked to notify the secretary by way of a phone call or written note. Students who arrive late must report to the office for a late slip before being admitted to class. When lateness is deemed to be a problem for a student, administration may decide that detention is necessary. Detention runs daily from 2:50 until 3:20.
SCHOOL CANCELLATIONS- Parents/guardians should use their discretion when sending children to school on days of inclement weather. In the event of serious weather conditions that necessitate school cancellation, a general announcement will be made over the radio station beginning at approximately 6:45a.m.
TEXT BOOKS AND LOCKS- All students are responsible for text books and locks issued to them at the beginning of the school year. If a text book or lock is stolen, lost or damaged students must pay the replacement cost of the item before a second one is issued. Report cards/certificates will not be issued until all books and locks have been returned to the school or until replacement costs have been paid.
TELEPHONE USE- The telephone in the office is available to students for emergency use only. This telephone is not for students to call home for forgotten books, lunches, etc. A pay phone is available in the hall outside the office.
IN-SCHOOL SUSPENSION PROGRAM- Administration has the choice of handing a student either in-school or out of school suspension. With in-school suspension the students are kept in one room, supervised by a teacher, for the entire day or more (including lunchtime), depending upon the reason for suspension. The student will not travel with his/her classmates, and will be expected to do work assigned by teachers.
