RIVERVIEW COMMUNICATION PLAN, 2008-2009
Belief Statement
We believe:
All students can and must learn.
Schools must meet the unique learning needs of each of our students.
The home, school and community must serve and support one another.
Teaching and learning require a healthy, safe and orderly environment.
Adequate resources and services are essential for effective instruction.
All staff must continue to learn, and all schools must continue to improve.
Vision Statement
Riverview High School will provide all students with an engaging instructional program, based on the expectation that all students can learn at an appropriately high level. The program will be delivered by knowledgeable staff, resulting in improved student achievement.
As parents, you have an extremely important role in your child’s education. Parental involvement makes a huge difference in a child’s success.
Student agenda books will be distributed to everyone. They contain all the necessary information regarding school schedules, fees, extracurricular activities, discipline regulations and many other items. So please become familiar with the agenda’s contents.
ATTENDANCE
Regular attendance is very important to be successful in all subjects. Missing too many classes can result in poor academic achievement and even withdrawal from school. Attendance reports will be mailed to parents half-way through each semester.
If your son or daughter must be absent or late, please call us before 10 a.m. that day. Also, in order to achieve enhanced communication with parents, we offer K12 Planet, a confidential website, that gives accurate daily attendaence for your child. Logins are available at the main office.
COMMUNICATION PLANS
Your son/daughter has received a communication plan for each subject, which outlines course content and assessment information. Please read these plans carefully with your child.
DRESS CODE
We believe that wearing clothing that is appropriate for school fosters a positive learning environment and demonstrates respect for self and others in the school community. Please read the entire dress code in the student agenda.
PERSONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICES
Personal Electronic Devices will not be used in the building in order to respect each other’s privacy.
Students must power down and store all electronic devices before entering the classroom. A violation of this rule will mean that we will hold the device until parent(s)/guardian is contacted.
PROGRESS REPORTS
In semestered schools, we have two reporting periods, one in January, at the end of 1st semester, and one in June, at the end of 2nd semester.
Following mid-term progress reports, we will have Parent-Teacher meetings:
Thursday, November 20 - 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. &
Friday, November 21 - 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Thursday, April 23 - 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. &
Friday, April 24 - 9:00 - 11:00 a.m.
However, if you have concerns regarding your son/daughter academically or otherwise, the sooner you contact us the better.
STUDENT FEES
Our fee this year is $35.00. Fundraising campaigns have proven unpopular with both students and parents, and have been discontinued. The student fee is used as follows: student agenda book, student council activities, extracurricular clubs, technical support, parent mailouts, graduation expenses and some classroom supplies, not related to curriculum. |
