- Students will need a calculator for this semester.
- Students will be going to the library on Friday February 15th for a tutorial in EBSCO and APA referencing for a project:
Comparing Energy Sources
Chemistry 12 – Thermochemistry Project
1. Choose an energy source from the list provided (you may suggest a source not on the list). A maximum of two groups can do the same topic. Groups can include two or three people, or project can be done individually.
2. Research your energy source. Your research should cover the following:
a. Description of the energy source
i. What is it and how is it used?
ii. Is it better suited to industry, or to individual homes or appliances?
iii. Is used in Nova Scotia? Where? Where is it used?
b. Risks and benefits
i. Environmental impact – covering all stages, for example: exploring for oil; drilling for oil; refining oil; and using oil.
ii. Efficiency
iii. Economic – jobs related to the energy source, spin-offs, etc.
iv. Would you recommend this energy source? Why or why not? What are some advantages and disadvantages of this energy source (be specific!)?
3. Ensure that you use a variety of sources and list your sources on a Reference Page (Bibliography) using APA style. Minimum of four different sources (more are recommended).
4. Create a power point presentation. The power point may incorporate text, still images, video, and audio. Power point should include at least 10 slides.
