COMPUTERS
IN THE CLASSROOM
Author: Carolyn King
TEACHER'S NOTE: If you have Internet access you can of course do research
on the subject you are teaching.
1) Write the kids a script of what web site to go to,answer
questions, and then where to go from there. This way they aren't
surfing and getting into things they shouldn't.
2) You can use graphics downloaded from the Internet and make
brochures and signs about the subjects you are teaching.
3) There is a new product out called Web Buddy. You download what
Internet sites you want to use from a computer that has Internet
access onto a floppy. Then you take the floppy to be used into your
classroom to allow the kids to do the research without the fear of
being able to get off somewhere strange on the net.
EDITOR'S NOTE: Thre are a couple of software programs on the market
that will do this for you. Another is Web Whacker. You can store
the files on your hard drive (complete with links) and run your
lab/classroom as a sort of INTRANET.
