Grade: Middle
Concepts: Listening, visualizing, fact, opinion
Materials: Titanic CD (soundtrack), Interview with survivor, Blank paper
Activity time: 40 minutes

Process:

1) Supply students with an interview with a survivor (this was located in our History of America S.S. book).

2) PLay the music as background while the teacher and student volunteer read the interview.

3) After the reading, allow students to reflect on the reading and how the music makes them feel.

4)Then number the students off 1, 2, 3 - that is the class they were if they were on the Titanic. Tell them all to stand up. Then tell anyone who is NOT a girl in 1st class to sit down because they died. (this shows them how many people actually
perished)

5) Then with the blank paper instruct students to fold the top down about 3 inches and write at the top their perspective on how they died. (if they did, according to the number provided previously).

6) Then with the remaining time (and paper) allow students to illustrate a picture of the titanic.

7) End the lesson with a quick review of the information introduced in the lesson.
