One:

The best way to begin is to create a text document containing the words that you want to appear on your Web page. Most word processing programs will work fine (Make sure you save your file with the .html or .htm extension -- example: science1.htm) Your Web browser will not read document files such as science.wpd, science.doc, science.pdf, etc. Also, save the document as "Text Only."

The first step is to type out your story, book review, or whatever it is you want to use to create your page. Here are a few tips to help you organize your text:

  • Begin with a title that describes your topic and add an attention-grabbing greeting or introduction, so people will know immediately what your page is about and will want to read more.
  • Your text will need breaks (you will have to organize your page in sections and paragraphs) You do not want your page to be one big block of text -- nothing is more boring or hard to follow than this. Your page will be easier for your reader to follow if you section and paragraph breaks.
  • Don't forget, you will want to insert graphics (pictures) into your Web page (More info to follow). Take a look at a few sample Web pages and note how they make use of graphic images on their pages.
