MIK’MAQ HISTORY JEOPARDY GAME
The school had a Mik’Maq History Jeopardy Game on Wednesday, October 28th with Brandon LeBlanc Grade 9, Amber Roberts Grade 8 and Kate MacNeil Grade 7 representing their grade level. The students did a fabulous job and our winner this year was Amber Roberts Grade 8. Congratulations to Amber on a great game.
SCHOOL FUND RAISER
Sydney Mines Jr. High School is having a fundraiser this year. We are selling Motivational Calendar’s for $5.00 each. For every two calendar’s each student sells, their name goes into a draw for prizes. Good luck to all the students.
BREAST CANCER
At Sydney Mines Jr. High the staff and students raised $100.00 for Breast Cancer. This was just another part of SMJH’s cares about their community.
UNICEF
The students and staff at Sydney Mines Jr. High raised $1767.65 for Unicef. Everyone should be very proud of themselves for contributing to such a great cause.
OLYMPIC TORCH RUN
Sydney Mines Jr. High was the station for the Olympic torch run for the Northside. It was a great honor to have our school serve as a base. The Olympic torch run passed our school approximately 8:40 a.m. with our own Mitchell Pye carrying the Olymic torch. We are all very proud of you Mitchell, what a great honor to have carried the Olympic torch.
ATTENDANCE
Parents are asked that if your child is off for any reason, you are required to phone the school to excuse them for being absent. In addition it is very important that students arrive on time at school. Those who are repeatedly late may loose student privileges or face disciplinary action.
REMEMBRANCE DAY CEREMONY
Sydney Mines Jr. High celebrated their Remembrance Day Ceremony on November 6th at 1:30 pm. All students present attended a beautiful ceremony attended by our local Vets and our young Army and Air Cadets. Thank you to all who participated in making it a great Remembrance Day Ceremony.
FLU (H1N1)
Due to the expected demand on public health nurses this year there will be NO grade 7 immunization. It will resume next year when all grade 7 & 8 students will be immunized. Parents are also directed to check the school board website (www.cbv.ns.ca) for the latest updates about the H1N1 contingency plan which is filled with helpful links. Hard copies of this plan are available at the office if requested. Parents are asked to keep all children home who are showing flu like symptoms until they have recovered. As well, all visitors are asked to not enter the building if showing flu like symptoms.
CELL PHONE
Parents are reminded that cell phone use is strictly forbidden within the school. All cell phones must be turned off and kept out of sight. Failure to comply with this will result in disciplinary action.
CONGRATULATIONS
Our congratulations go out to our own Bhreagh Ross who has landed the role of Juliet in the upcoming play of Romeo and Juliet at CBU. What a great experience this will be for her. Good Luck Bhreagh.
