This policy sets forward procedures in case of death of staff, student, Board member or family of the aforementioned for all schools under the Board’s jurisdiction.   



To ensure that specific procedures are outlined for these situations when they occur in any of the schools within the region.  This will ensure consistent treatment for all individuals during this difficult time.


Policy Statement           

It is the policy of the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board that in the case of death of staff or student, appropriate arrangements be made for proper representation at the funeral.

It is the responsibility of the Director of Programs and Student Services to ensure that this policy and administrative procedures are implemented.



The Coordinator of School Services will implement the policy and administrative procedures.



1.         The Principal will determine appropriate representation at funerals, while maintaining program delivery at the school.

2.         In cases where there is a death of a member of the school staff or a member of the student body, students and teachers may be permitted to attend the funeral service, in consultation with Central Office staff.
