Scope

This policy applies to all STAFF under the jurisdiction of the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board.

 

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to process requests from staff for leaves and secondments.

 

Policy Statement        

Leave Without Pay

The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board recognizes that staff may possess unique skills and experience that could potentially benefit groups or organizations outside the board.  If a specific request is made by such a group or organization, the board may grant a leave without pay or benefits as per the Collective Agreement.

Secondments

The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board recognizes that staff may possess unique skills and experience that could potentially benefit either the board or the public school branch of the Department of Education in temporary assignments.  School system secondments are as per the Collective Agreement.  Department secondments are costed at the employee’s regular salary and benefits.

Authorization

The policy has been authorized by the Board under motions number 2001-179.

 

Responsibility

It is the responsibility of the Director of Human Resources to ensure that this policy and administrative procedures are implemented.

 

Implementation

The Director of Human Resources or designate will implement the policy and administrative procedures.

 

Procedures

Requests for all leaves/secondments should be made in writing to the Director of Human Resources by April 30 of the preceding school year.

                 

Policy Review

This policy will be reviewed by the Director of Human Resources and/or designate within three years from this authorization date.
