The policy covers the set up of an Attendance Committee. Section 64(2)(p) of the Education Act and section 116.
To ensure that provisions of the Education Act respecting attendance are followed within the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board.
It is the policy of the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board that an attendance committee be established under the provisions of the Education Act.

It is the responsibility of the Director of Programs and Student Services to ensure that this policy and administrative procedures are implemented.
The Coordinator of School Services will implement the policy and administrative procedures.
The duties of the attendance committee will include the following:
(1) Monitor the attendance of students in the schools under its jurisdiction.
(2) Take steps to reduce the absenteeism of students in the schools.
(3) Recommend to the School Board remedial steps and policies in respect of those students who have been reported to the School Board by the principal as being habitually absent from school without an acceptable reason.
This policy will be reviewed by Director of Programs and Student Services within three years from the authorization date.
