Cross Reference

This policy has been authorized by the Board under motions number....

It is the responsibility of the Director of Operational  Services to ensure that this policy and administrative procedures are implemented.

The Director of Operational Services will implement the policy and administrative procedures.

Permission may be granted by the Coordinator of Transportation, upon request of the Principal of the school or his/her designate, or the student or parent/guardian or upon request of a parent/guardian, for a student to transfer to another bus other than the student/s regularly assigned bus.

Permission will be granted for a bus transfer only where:

1. A letter of request for permission is received from the parent(s)/guardian of the student.

2. No ‘overload’ condition exists as a result.

3. A request is received by the Coordinator of Transportation either from the student, parent or the Principal of the school, before a student transfers.   The request must be legitimate and rational and must be approved by the Coordinator of Transportation.  If the request is approved, the Coordinator of Transportation arranges transportation of the student to school.  No student is to assume permission beforehand; for example, a student must not appear unexpectedly at a bus route for pick-up without the driver being previously made aware of the change, by the Coordinator of Transportation.

            a) Serious illness or hospitalization in the family that necessitates a student’s transfer to another domicile; or

            b) A family emergency or urgency which would dictate a student going elsewhere; or

            c) Other reason acceptable to the Coordinator of Transportation.

4. It is understood that common sense should prevail at all times in the implementations of this policy.
