This policy covers all schools in the region and their student orientation programs.
To provide a framework for schools to orientate students to their new school.
It is the policy of the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board that an orientation program be provided for students entering junior high school or senior high school.
This policy has been authorized by the Board under motions number
It is the responsibility of the Director of Programs and Student Services to ensure that this policy and administrative procedures are implemented.
The Coordinator of Student Services will implement the policy and administrative procedures.
The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board affirms the need and importance of a comprehensive orientation program at the elementary, junior and senior high school levels.
Such a program will ensure a smooth transition from one level to another by including such activities as:
1. Class visits to former school by receiving school principal;
2. Student visitation/orientation to new school;
3. Parents should be encouraged to visit the new school;
4. Fall classroom visits by counsellors;
5. Curriculum meetings between level teachers.
This policy will be reviewed by the Director of Programs and Student Services within three years.
