The policy sets forward the procedure to be followed when monitoring student attendance.
To ensure that Student Attendance policy in the schools of the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board is followed consistently.
Regular school attendance is a major factor in academic achievement and student success. Parents/guardians and school personnel have a role in ensuring that students attend school on a prompt and daily basis.

It is the responsibility of the Director of Programs and Student Services to ensure that this policy and administrative procedures are implemented.
The Co-ordinator of School Services will implement the policy and administrative procedures.
Under the direction of the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board, each school principal is responsible for overseeing attendance procedures ensuring that:
1. Attendance is taken and recorded daily.
2. Frequent student absences are followed up with appropriate and regular parent/guardian communications.
3. Students are properly excused for authorized absences.
4. Students who do not attend school for the full day for any reason, including health, will not be allowed to participate in or attend any school activities on that day, unless permission for the absence was obtained from the principal or his/her designate.
This policy will be reviewed by Director of Programs and Student Services within three years from the authorization date.
