Scope             

This policy applies to all personnel employed with the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board.

 

Purpose                      

To ensure the safety of all employees with the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board and to follow the regulations of the Provincial Workers’ Compensation Board.

 

Policy Statement        

It is the policy of the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board to ensure the safety of all employees of the Board and to comply with the process involved to apply for Workers’ Compensation and all of its regulations.

Authorization

Responsibility                        

It is the responsibility of the Director of Operational Services to ensure that this policy and administrative procedures are implemented.

     
Implementation

 

 

Procedures:               

1) Any employee who is injured, in any way, must report to their supervisor that they were injured, immediately.   A Workers’ Compensation form (see attached), must be completed and signed by the Supervisor, Manager of Transportation or the Coordinator of Transportation.  The Board has five working days to inform the Workers’ Compensation Board of an employee’s injury while on duty, either by mail or fax. Failure to do so, will result in a fine of $500.00 to the Board. Thus, it is imperative that the proper form be completed as soon as possible after the injury.

2) After said form is completed and signed, it is the responsibility of the Coordinator of Transportation or designate (Transportation Secretary), to ensure that the form is handled as follows:

a) Fax the completed form to the Workers’ Compensation Board for their handling.  Ensure that the confirmation notice from the fax machine is received and attach to the file for the Transportation Office , to be retained on the employee’s personal file. 

b) Send original form to Central Office for the Compensation and Benefits Clerk to handle, informing him/her if the employee lost time or not so that he/she can process the file further.

c) It is the responsibility of the Transportation Secretary to bring any correspondence from the Workers’ Compensation Board, regarding any employee’s file, to the attention of the Coordinator of Transportation so that any inquires can be handled in a timely manner.
