Re: Employee Self Service (ESS)
We are happy to announce that the Employee Self Service (ESS) system is now ready to be used by employees at our school board. We will be rolling ESS out to employees starting on July 1st, 2011.
What information will employees have access to through ESS?
Employees will be able to access their current and past pay advices.
How do employees access ESS?
Instructions on how to use ESS are included in the attached ESS Quick Reference Guide. This double-sided document will walk you through the steps necessary to login to and navigate through ESS. Please read through this document prior to accessing ESS for the first time.
Will I still receive a paper copy of my pay advice?
For the first pay on ESS, all School Board employees will receive a paper copy of their pay advices to allow for a period of adjustment. After that, paper copies will no longer be received and ESS must be accessed to view pay advices electronically. This is for all employees with the exception of Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), Local 5050 employees who may receive paper copies until September 30, 2011. In order to receive paper copies until September 30, 2011, CUPE employees must self identify themselves to the School Board’s payroll department by June 30th, 2011. They must provide their employee name and 8 digit SAP number (this can be found on the front of any of your pay advices). Those CUPE employees that self identify will receive training on accessing ESS. Access points will be available at all schools, the Board’s Central Office (George St., Sydney), Operational Services office (Alexander St., Sydney) and Staff Development Centre (Pitt St., North Sydney). Specifics on access to computers at the specified sites and hours of access will be communicated to you at a later date but prior to roll out on July 1st. After September 30, 2011, paper copies for CUPE employees will no longer be available.

In order to use ESS you must have an “ednet” email account. All employees should have an “ednet” email account assigned to them, however, if you do not have an “ednet” email account assigned to you, please contact the Technology Help Desk at 562-6868 to set up one immediately. This is necessary so that in the case that you put in a wrong password in ESS 3 times (which locks you out), an email will be sent to your “ednet” email account resetting your password to a temporary password. This is a security measure to protect your personal information. Please check your email account for a copy of this memo and the quick reference guide and reply by June 15th, 2011, indicating receipt so that we can ensure that all email accounts are functioning properly. Your ESS temporary password will be sent to your “ednet” email account prior to July 1st, 2011.
Username: INSERT PID (your Username will be your 8 digit SAP number with a capital P preceding it ie. P40009999)
Password: INSERT TEMPORARY PASSWORD
Upon initial logon, you will be prompted to reset your password. Be sure that you change it to something that you will remember, while following these rules:
