Victoria Lanoe's entry in the Mathieu Da Costa Challenge has been chosen as a semi-finalist. This means that the entry is eligible to win the Public Choice Award! Voting for the Public Choice Award will take place at www.votemathieudacosta.com from March 10 to March 17. Scroll down the page to Writing French Competition Ages 13-15, Victoria's poem is in the first row and it is the third one.Below is her poem in French and English.

The Mathieu Da Costa Challenge is an annual writing and artwork competition organized by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. The Challenge encourages youths to discover how diversity has shaped Canada’s history and the important role that pluralism plays in Canadian society. With citizens from more than 200 ethnic backgrounds, Canada is one of the world’s most culturally diverse countries!

Alyssa Leahy’s entry in the Mathieu Da Costa Challenge has been chosen as a semi-finalist. This means that the entry is eligible to win the Public Choice Award!

Voting for the Public Choice Award will take place at www.votemathieudacosta.com from March 10 to March 17. Scroll down the page to Artwork ages 13-15, Alyssa’s work is in the second row with just a portion of the picture showing the maple leaf in hand.

SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS

As the Superintendent of Schools, you will act as the Chief Executive Officer of the Regional School Board and have overall accountability for the efficient management and operation of the regional office and the public schools in the region–including program delivery, support services, financial administration, systems administration, technological innovation, management and supervision of all Board employees and relations with government, stakeholders, the public and the media. You will provide a link between the day-to-day administration of the Region and the Board Chair, and oversee the planning and development of the Board’s goals and priorities.

You have demonstrated the ability to integrate strategic thinking into operational plans and bring key stakeholders on-side. You are a person of vision who promotes innovation by setting challenging organizational targets and effectively managing resources. You understand how education is financed, and you have dealt with the impact of declining enrolment as it relates to program and student services delivery.

You are an effective communicator who has demonstrated a commitment to meaningful consultation, collaboration, and outstanding social awareness in a diverse cultural environment. As an ideal candidate–you should possess a Masters or Ph.D in Education (Education Administration preferred) or an equivalent education; a valid Teacher’s License/Certificate; ten years relevant experience in progressively more responsible leadership and management roles; experience as a Senior Official with a School Board; and a minimum of five years teaching and/or school-based administration experience. Additional training in Educational Management/Leadership would be an asset.

The closing date for the competition is March 19, 2010. The Search Committee is seeking a highly-qualified individual to commence employment at its Sydney location by August 1, 2010. Please forward your resume and letter of introduction to:
