JUNE 2009

Congratulations to grade 3-6 students from St. Agnes Elementary and to teacher, Mr. Robbie Chiasson, for participating in the WeMuv challenge.  These students finished a respectable 57th in Canada  and 2nd in Nova Scotia.  St Agnes was the only school from Cape Breton involved in the challenge.  The students had fun, were physically active and everyone received a free pedometer for taking part!

Developed in partnership with Physical and Health Education Canada (PHE Canada) the WeMüv™ School Challenge is a FREE program designed to inspire teachers and students to have fun and to stay physically active. Participating schools competed for the highest average student step count accumulation during a 1-week challenge. Throughout the challenge, teachers were able to download easy-to-use Physical Education curriculum-supported lesson plans, activities and supporting documentation from the WeMuv website,

Two consultants who have been instrumental in providing instructional support in the area of technology integration will retire at the end of June 2009. Bill and Dorothy Tennant have been early users of technology, starting as members on the first staff at Sherwood Park Education Centre. They modeled appropriate use of technology in the classroom at SPEC, Jubilee Elementary and St Joseph Elementary in Sydney Mines. As consultants, Bill and Dorothy through workshops and professional development at the school sites, passed along their experience and skills to many teachers throughout CB-VRSB.
