Coordinator of Human Resource Services (NSTU)

The Coordinator of Human Resource Services continues to work with the Working Group on the Aesop system. Two meetings were held with substitutes to explain the new substitute qualification procedure. All substitutes were asked to supply information on their educational backgrounds. The Human Resource database now contains this information for all substitutes and it also records subjects related to their educational background. Presently, staff from the three pilot schools are being in-serviced to utilize the automated call out system and monitor the efficacy of the new matching process.

The Coordinator of Human Resources is organizing “Consultant Days” for students in the Bachelor of Education program at Cape Breton University. Two days will be scheduled on May 19th and May 21st for board coordinators and consultants to present to the students.

Schools have been updating their enrollment data as we prepare to begin staffing for the 2010 – 2011 school year. Information sessions were held with principals at all levels to explain the process to be followed. Once board approval has been obtained, schools will be notified of their staff for next year.

Human Resources Department has completed a draft review of the hiring policy and guidelines. These will be presented to the board for review.

Coordinator of Human Resource Services (CUPE)

Professional Development

On Friday, April 23rd, lunch bus and ground supervisors from semestered schools were

provided with First Aid training during the Professional Development Day. This completes the

goal of having the opportunity of training provided to all of our lunch, bus, ground supervisors

in our schools as non-semestered school supervisors had this training on February 26th.

As we move into staffing for the 2001/11 school year, Student Services and Human Resources have been working together to meet with Principals of each school to review student needs. This information will be used for staffing of Teacher Assistants for the coming school year.
