SPECIAL BOARD MEETING
(1) CALL TO ORDER:
A Special Board meeting of the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board was called to order today beginning at 5:11 p.m.

(3) NSTU Agreement:
Representatives were on hand from the Provincial and local NSTU to participate in the signing of the NSTU agreement. Alexis Allen, Bruce Kelloway, Peter Murphy, Ron MacIntosh, Arnold Burke, Mike Dunphy and Milton Bonnar were present on behalf of the NSTU.
Words of thanks were expressed by the President of the NSTU, Ms. Alexis Allen.
(4) NEW BUSINESS:

Seconded by Commissioner Flynn
That the Board accept the agenda with the above additions. . .
(5) NSTU Administrative Recommendations:
Moved by Commissioner Keagan
Seconded by Commissioner Margettie
That the Board approve the administrative recommendations as presented for the 2010-2011 school year. . . .

(6) CUPE TEACHER ASSISTANT STAFFING:
Mrs. Beth MacIsaac, Director of Human Resources and Ms. Wendy King, Coordinator of Human Resources reviewed the staffing proposal for Teacher Assistants for the 2010 – 2011 school year. They noted that new needs may still be recognized in September, 2010.
Questions of interest were expressed by several Board members and addressed by Human Resources.
Commissioner Flynn spoke of the independence from teacher assistants which needs to be created by the time the students enter and leave high school.
(7) NEW BUSINESS
Superintendent Davis spoke with regards to this issue. He noted that the Board members are presently on record as expressing concern regarding administrators being in the same union as their staff.

That correspondence be forwarded to the Minister of Education highlighting the challenges the restrictions which are upon our Board by having administrators members of the Nova Scotia Teachers Union. .
