SPECIAL BOARD MEETING

(1) CALL TO ORDER:

A Special Board meeting of the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board was called to order today beginning at 5:10 p.m.

(3) MOMENT OF SILENCE:

A Moment of Silence was held for two students who attended Sydney Academy and had lost their lives in an automobile accident on the weekend.

(6) NEW BUSINESS:

a. Commissioner Tilley – Northside Learning Centre – Commissioner Tilley noted that he has been having discussions with the Community Cares Organization with regards to the possibility of obtaining the old Northside Learning Centre while vacating the old Notre Dame School.

That the Board enter into discussions with the Community Cares Organization for a workable solution for the organization to obtain the old Northside Learning Centre. . .

That the Board place the old Northside Learning Centre for sale via tender as soon as possible. . . .

b. Commissioner Pierrard – Boularderie Elementary – She noted that the community of Boularderie are quite upset over the loss of their present principal for another candidate. She noted that the school has been experiencing several changes in appointments of principals throughout the past years.
They were also disappointed that comments which were expressed by the SAC representative were felt to be not considered. They would like to see the SAC representative who attends the interviews have the opportunity to vote for the successful candidate.

c. Commissioner Mercer – Sites of the Adult Day Schools – Questioned if sites have been selected for these particular schools. Superintendent White noted that presently they are looking at Memorial High School and Glace Bay High School. Mr. Paul Oldford, Director of Operational Services advised that for the Northside Learning Centre they are presently investigating a classroom for these particular students at Thompson Junior High.

d. Commissioner Margettie – Riverside Elementary – Noted that she wishes to see all schools treated fairly and the same.

e. Commissioner Currie – Interview Questions – She noted that during the interviews one of the questions asked was regarding combined classes. She noted that they were highly impressed with some of the responses that they had received. It was noted all the positive initiatives which take place in combined classes.
