SPECIAL BOARD MEETING
(1) CALL TO ORDER:
A Special Board meeting of the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board was called to order today beginning at 5:08 p.m.

(3) NSTU CLASSROOM STAFFING:
Moved by Commissioner Currie
Seconded by Commissioner Margettie
That the Board accept the classroom staffing plan as presented by Human Resources with a total reduction of 41.5 FTE’s . .
(4) HIGH SCHOOL SCHEDULING:
Moved by Commissioner Margettie
Seconded by Commissioner Currie
That the Board accept the mandated high school scheduling process presented by Human Resources. . .
(5) ADMINISTRATIVE GUIDELINES/RECOMMENDATIONS:
Moved by Commissioner Berk
Seconded by Commissioner Organ
That the Board accept the recommended administrative guidelines and administrative recommendations as presented. . .
(6) NSTU QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES:
Mrs. Beth MacIsaac and Mrs. Tracie Collier, provided the rationale and purpose for the review of the guidelines for teacher qualifications during the staffing process.
(7) Looking Inward/School Review:
Commissioner Currie distributed the recent caption in the Chronicle Herald by Mr. Bruce MacKinnon.
Board Chair Lorne Green distributed correspondence he received during his recent meeting of the Board Chairs. He noted comments that were made by the leader of the NDP party, Mr. Darrell Dexter before he became premier.
Board Chair, Commissioner Green, noted the tone of the meeting he recently attended and the frustration expressed by other Boards across the province.
Disappointment was expressed over the political tones of the request made to Board’s to halt the School Review process.
It was noted by the Board Chair that each Board will be making their own decisions and these decisions may not be unified across the province.
Mr. White, Superintendent of Schools, noted a conference call occurred with all the Superintendents this afternoon and it was noted that the Board’s were all expressing their concerns and some Board’s are still angry. He further noted that there is no easy answer to the Minister’s request.
Commissioner Margettie noted that she will welcome a change in the process over the next year however she is not convinced that the Department of Education will follow through on their statement to create change in the review process.
