Operational Services Report

March 2008

A Sponsor Group Meeting for Riverview High School Alterations and Renovations took place March 12, 2008. Don Lohnes, Charles Ritchie and Jim Burton from the Department of Education met with Ambrose White, Paul Oldford and representatives from Ojolick Associates. A status report was presented along with budget review for 2007 and preparation for 2008 budget. The Business Plan for this project was presented and reviewed and things are in good order. Another meeting is scheduled for April.

The Sponsor Group Meeting for Sydney Academy Alterations and Renovations was held on March 12, from 1- 4 p.m.. Don Lohnes, Charles Ritchie, Jim Burton, Ambrose White, Paul Oldford and Bob Fraser from Archibald and Jones Architects were in attendance.

Budget review for 2007 and projections for 2008 were reviewed, as well as a go forward plan, in conjunction with the Business Plan. The Business Plan document was received and the communications plan was approved. The next meeting will be held in April.

Technology Report
  1. I.E.I.E.–10 Refresh – hardware installs – software recently arrived and the installs are in process.
  1. Completed lab upgrades in the following schools, using Computers for Schools equipment.

a) Morrison

b) Glace Bay Adult School

c) Donkin Complex

  1. Computers for Schools – upgraded 67 obsolete computers in the School Board. The obsolete computers were donated to the Nigeria project.
  1. Computers for schools – upgraded 20 obsolete computers at Sydney Academy.
  1. Computers for Schools – donated 17 computers to the community.
  1. Computers for Schools – 100 computers ready to be shipped. These are obsolete but still usable computers which C.F.S. already upgraded in the schools.
  1. Sherwood Park – upgrade the Tech Ed Lab with new computers purchased by S.P.E.C.
  1. Mt. Carmel – removed all Pentium II computers and upgraded using CFS computers.
  1. During the last month, we completed 499 work requests of assorted nature.


Transportation Report

During the March break, all mechanics were given two days training by the International Company on engines at the Strait Regional School Board. It was reported to be very successful by the staff.

During the month of March, we had 24 units in Baddeck and 30 units in Coxheath inspected and passed by the Public Utility Board. Our bodywork is up to date and keeping ahead of major problems. Also, servicing is up to date and no units are going over the service limits.

We continue to update runs and assign students to buses through our routing software and are aiming for a completion date of June 1, 2008.
