Mr. Paul Oldford, Director of Operational Services began the presentation advising the Board that tonight’s session will be an information session and an opportunity for the Board to address the content of the long range outlook. This is the outcome of the Looking Inward process. He suggested that the Board ask questions or concerns they may have and when they leave the meeting this evening they will still have an opportunity to have their concerns and questions addressed. On March 23, 2015 the Board will meet again to further review our long term plan and to make recommendations.

A power-point presentation was made to the Board reviewing each family of schools while providing options for Board consideration. The following family of schools were reviewed and discussed in detail.

· Victoria North Schools
· Victoria South Schools
· Northside Family of Schools
· Riverview Family of Schools
· Sydney Family of Schools
· New Waterford Family of Schools
· Glace Bay Family of Schools

Concerns were expressed by Commissioner Berk with regards to the reconfiguration of Middle River School. Commissioner Berk would like to see the Grade Six students remain at Middle River elementary. Commissioner Organ echoed these same concerns with regards to the schools in her communities. They both understand that the decision has been made and yet they still have concerns.

Commissioner Toomey expressed his passion for the Northside schools. Lengthy discussions ensued with regards to a Middle School for the Northside Family of Schools.

Commissioner Parsons spoke of schools in smaller communities and being the last existing school in these particular communities. Mr. Oldford spoke of reviewing Family of Schools and not necessarily individual schools.

During the end of the presentation, Mr. Oldford reviewed the School Review process with the Board and staff.

Lastly; Mr. Oldford highlighted the issue of Hub Schools, capital projects, previous school reviews, capacity etc. He further advised that if anyone requires further information or has any questions, to forward them to Michelle MacLeod before the next meeting so that the information can be provided.

It was noted that the Board will meet again on Monday, March 23, 2015 to discuss our long term plan further with the hopes of reaching some decisions and/or options.
