A meeting of the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School board was called to order today beginning at 7:05 p.m.

(6) CORRESPONDENCE:

(7) PRESENTATION BY MR. VINCE PENNEY, FIRE MARSHALL:

Mr. Penney wished to make a presentation to the Board with regards to the Fire Safety Act. He noted that the Operational Services Department in cooperation with the Board have exemplified themselves in Fire Safety. Fire Marshall′s Partnership Award was presented to the Board Chair and Mr. Matheson.

(8) SUPERINTENDENT′S REPORT:

Mr. Davis, Superintendent of Schools was unable to attend however Mrs. Beth MacIsaac, Director of Human Resource Services reviewed his report in his absence. Highlights of the report included safety and security of our students and staff. A review of the goals and objectives for the 2006-2007 school year has taken place. Accountability in our schools was briefly highlighted within the report. The report is attached to the original minutes and can be found on the Board website.

(10) NSSBA REPORT:


Commissioner Campbell reviewed her NSSBA report. Highlights of her report included the responses to the resolutions received at the AGM. These responses have been distributed to all Board members. Health Services delivery in our schools has been given as a mandate to be researched by the NSSBA. Educational Goals and Priorities document was presented at the Special Board Meeting held on October 30, 2006.

(11) REGIONAL EDUCATION OFFICER′S REPORT:

Commissioner Morrison took the time congratulate Mr. Burton on his recent appointment as Director of Regional Educational Services.

The Regional Education Officer′s report was circulated to the Board. Highlights of his report included the award received this evening from Mr. Vince Penney, Fire Marshall′s Partnership Award. Food and Nutrition Survey, Professional Learning Committee, Guidelines for Administering Medication to Students, Diversity Talent pool, Safety & Security and Summer Institutes Report. Rural Congress will be held in March, 2007. A copy of the report can be found attached to the original minutes.

(12) NEW BUSINESS:

a. Commissioner Lynk - Afghanistan - A large contingent of Troops are going to Afghanistan in February and Commissioner Lynk wished to see the School Board send some supplies over with these troops. He would like to see an agreement in principle to canvass some of our schools to distribute some school bags containing school supplies.

b. Commissioner Ruelland - Parent/Teacher Night- He wished to see the hours of parent/teacher be addressed. Noting that not all parents can attend sessions during the daytime due to employment commitments. Commissioner MacKinnon also wished to see this matter addressed and corrected immediately.

At the next Education Committee meeting Commissioner Ruelland would like to have a report regarding this issue.

(13) NEXT SCHEDULED MEETING:


The next scheduled meeting of the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board will be held on Monday, January 29, 2006 at Jubilee Elementary.

Commissioner Morrison wished to thank staff and Board for their patience and support over the year and to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas.

It was noted the Christmas supper is being held on December 22nd, at Sherwood Park Education Centre.
